This year, with BCS running concurrently with BILT, those of you that haven’t had the opportunity in the past to join us at BCS because of the extra time commitment can easily sign up for a few sessions to get an idea of what it’s all about. It will also give those that are coming to St. Louis specifically for BCS a chance to interact with a larger number of BILT attendees in the BILT exhibition hall.
This is great news for anyone who wants to hear some different perspectives from thought leaders representing not just the design industry but also from manufacturers and software and service providers. During the two days of BCS, there are four round-table sessions planned for those that want to have more active conversations and add their own perspectives to the mix.
Besides these round-tables, there are five other BCS sessions that attendees can choose from on Thursday and Friday, aside from the BCS keynote. Keep an eye out on the blog for spotlights on the speakers and sessions, but for now here is an overview of a few of the sessions:
On Thursday, August 9th after lunch, Don Bokmiller from Schneider Electric will be hosting a panel discussion featuring representatives from architecture, mechanical and electrical engineering, a manufacturer, and BIM consultant to openly discuss content and how it is delivered and used. Some of the questions that will be covered are:
- Why is manufacturer content important? What are manufacturers telling you?
- How easy is it to find what you are looking for?
- What are the advantages/disadvantages of using your own content?
- Who should govern how manufacturer content is made?
- How is content delivered? Can the basic workflow be improved?
- Content needs for current/future technologies such as VR, AR and AI.
On Friday morning, Ken Flannigan from Kone Inc. will present: Configure, Automate, Innovate: Industrialized BIM in a World of Variation. In this session he will present how designers and builders interact and benefit from industrialized BIM workflows to aid in the planning of a project’s vertical transportation solutions. Specifically he will:
- Analyze how industrialized BIM processes can aid design and construction
- Compare configuration tools for design and engineering, limitations, and opportunities
- Understand how to leverage the human element in support and delivery process
- How to increase understanding through information and access
On Friday afternoon, Marc Goldman, Vice President of HxGN SMART Build will present: The common thread of Building Product Content to 3D / 4D / 5D BIM in the Cloud. This informative session will shed light on the importance of Building Product Content throughout the BIM-based project lifecycle; from importing 3D models and packaging work that can be assigned and taken into the field, to forecasting costs & timelines, to performing digital layout for accurate construction execution. During this session we will walk through several ways HxGN SMART Build is used throughout a construction project, highlighting the value of high-quality building product content at various stages of the project.
